I'm Wendy Backhous
I am a grandmother and a retired nurse, who is proud to stand as a candidate for Labor in Page in 2025.
I care deeply about our community and want to make a difference for the families who live and work here with long-term, practical solutions like more affordable medicines and childcare, more housing, solar power, Medicare bulk billing, higher wages, tax cuts and better education.
Our region needs a government that works hard for local families and is focused on improving our healthcare and education systems, protecting and creating local jobs and working with communities to build resilience against more frequent natural disasters.
We need caring and honest voices in parliament representing our communities.
That’s why I’m asking for vote in the upcoming Federal election. Together we can make a difference,
Wendy

PRIORITIES
Wendy is determined to make a positive difference to the lives of people in Northern NSW.
Her priorities include:
MAKING IT EASIER TO SEE A DOCTOR
by tripling the bulk billing payment to GPs and building Medicare Urgent Care Clinics in Lismore and Coffs Harbour, that have seen over 24,000 patients since November 23.

through delivering tax cuts for every taxpayer, $300 energy bill relief, keeping wages rising particularly for low-income workers and cheaper medicines.
PUTTING MORE MONEY BACK INTO YOUR POCKET

PROTECTING LOCAL JOBS AND THE ENVIRONMENT
By ensuring we keep 1,000 vital federal public service jobs in Page that are under threat if a Dutton government is elected, including people working from home.
Investing in clean energy and national parks.
INVESTING IN EDUCATION AND HOUSING
By fully funding public schools in NSW, cutting HECS debts by 20% and making Free TAFE permanent to train more healthcare & construction workers.
Helping young people buy their first home, and building new homes.

delivering three days of subsidised childcare per week to every child while boosting wages for early educators and building additional centres in 2025.
